Atmakur (Kurnool): Over 16,000 devotees, including those from adjacent Telangana villages, took a holy dip in River Krishna at Sangameswaram on the second day of Pushkaralu on Saturday.

The rush of pilgrims at the bathing ghats is noticed even at 10 pm. With the increase in footfalls of devotees, the number of rituals and homams conducted on account of the event has also multiplied. The police have kept a hawk eye on movements of Maoists and anti-social elements.

Rayalaseema Inspector General of Police Sridhar patrolled the river coast in a mechanised boat following arrest of the Maoists in Kurnool and information that the anti-social elements from Chattisgarh sneaked into State.

At Pushkaranagar, charitable organisations have set up camps to distribute breakfast and meals free of cost to public. Additional medical camps have been established. People have to wait for long hours to catch the buses as the RTC could not run services to meet devotees rush.
