Tirupati: Union Ministry for Information Technology to set up five `electronic manufacturing clusters’ in Andhra Pradesh including Tirupati, Sri City both in Chittoor district and Anantapur where it is in final stage, said Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister for Law, Justice and Information Technology.

The Union Minister held a high-level official meeting with the authorities of NIC, UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), C.DOT and STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) in AP and Telangana here on Saturday.

Later, speaking to media, Ravi Shankar Prasad said that in Tirupati cluster where 30 electronic companies are operating, in total made a business of Rs 80 crore, while at national level Rs 41, 000 crore was exported. Stating that the State of Andhra Pradesh is doing well with regard to IT and ITES, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi government has also taken up application of technology to espouse the cause of poor by bringing in transparency.

The IT and ITeS were effectively utilised for DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) by remitting the subsidy amount in the bank account of the beneficiary, he said.The promotion of IT and ITeS as a mission saw weeding out of 11 lakh bogus beneficiaries of MGNREGS, through usage of Aadhaar, while it also helped save Rs 1,600 crore by eliminating ineligible persons availing PDS rice (Rs 1,100 crore) and sugar and kerosene (Rs 500 crore) in AP, the Minister said adding that at national level IT and ITeS helped Central government to save about Rs 36,500 crore which is a classic example for the benefits of IT and ITeS.

Prasad also expressed satisfaction over the implementation of Aadhaar and also the functioning of NIC, STPI and C.DOT for cyber security. “The results are quite encouraging but we have to do more’’ he averred.

Ravi Shankar Prasad later participated in seminar on `Natural Law’ conducted in Sri Brahmarishi Guruji Ashram at C Ramapuram in Ramachandrapuram mandal, near here.

The seminar was held to mark the distribution of study materials to 1,000 girls as part of the Kanya Siksha Abhiyan campaign taken up by the Ashram to promote women education.
