Teach patriotism to kids: Purandeswari
Speaking at a meeting held at PCR Government High School here on Saturday, Purandeswari stated that parents should play a vital role in inculcating patriotic values in children and groom them into model citizens. Purandeswari recalled the supreme sacrifices made by the national leaders for liberating India from British rule.
Chittoor: The BJP leader and former Union Minister Daggubati Purandeswari said it is need of the hour for the present generation to recollect the sacrifices of great freedom fighters and the challenges they faced in achieving independence to the country from 200 years of British rule, on the eve of the 70th Independence Day celebrations.
Speaking at a meeting held at PCR Government High School here on Saturday, Purandeswari stated that parents should play a vital role in inculcating patriotic values in children and groom them into model citizens. Purandeswari recalled the supreme sacrifices made by the national leaders for liberating India from British rule.
She lamented that the current generation had least awareness about the freedom struggle owing to various factors. “Youth are the hope of the nation. But our educational system has a huge lacuna in terms of instilling patriotism in students.
They hardly know that Mahatma Gandhi is the father of the nation. We all ought to be ashamed at the fact that they have no idea on the Independence Movement,”
she said.
Stating that divisive forces were striving drastically to destabilise the country, she said terrorism was the major challenge to the nation. She exhorted the younger generation to come forward and save the nation from internal and external threats. For this noble mission, parents should instill the right nationalist values in their children from the schooling stage itself, said Purandeswari.
She also called for the inculcation of spiritual values in the current generation which she said, was falling prey to the temptations of western culture. Parents should teach their wards, the meaning of the sloka ‘Janani Janmabhoomischa Swargadapi Gariyasi’ and prepare their children into brave soldiers to protect the unity and integrity of the country, she said.
District BJP leaders Haribabu Chowdary, Srinivasulu, Vijay, Devendra and others were present. Later, a rally was organised along the streets of city chanting the slogan ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai,’ in which many students participated.
