Tirumala: A grand ‘Purnahuthi' marked the conclusion of the three-day annual ‘Pavithrotsavam' at Tirumala temple on Tuesday. The Poornahuthi was preceded by an elaborate ‘homam' in which a battery of priests participated in chanting verses from the scriptures.

They offered a range of spices, condiments, fruits and dry fruits into the sacrificial fire-pit (homa gundam) and splashed ghee making the flames from the gundam' leap up and sending pilgrims into raptures.

The utsava murthies (processional deities) of Malayappa Swamy and his consorts were given a celestial bath (Snapana Thirumanjanam) with cow milk, coconut water, curd, honey and turmeric. Dhoopa, Deepa Harati were also performed.

After Visesha puja in the afternoon, the processional idols were taken out in a procession around the four Mada Streets. Later, the processional idols of Malayappa Swamy and his consorts Bhudevi and Sridevi entered the temple via ‘Vimana Pradakshina’ marking the completion of Pavithrotsavam.
