Kakinada: Deputy CM and Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa sought the co-operation of the people for the overall development of the newly-formed Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the gathering at the 70th Independence Day celebrations organised at police parade grounds on Monday, the deputy CM stressed on the need for active participation of all sections of society for the State to develop on all fronts and compete with its neighbours.

He outlined the various developmental schemes taken up by the government in the last two years despite the financial crunch being faced by the State following bifurcation.

Speaking on the welfare schemes taken up in East Godavari, Chinarajappa said that housing for the poor was being given top priority with 21,000 houses to be constructed under ‘NTR Housing Scheme’ at a cost of Rs 473 crore and 24, 675 houses to be built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

He also said that 660 Anganwadi centres would be constructed at a cost of Rs 46.20 crore and desilting works of 726 water tanks would be taken up under ‘Neeru- Chettu’ programme at a cost of Rs 52.22 crore.

The deputy CM added that the government has taken up the development Hope Island, Coringa Mangroves and Konaseema at a cost of Rs 70 crore for promoting tourism.

Earlier, on his arrival the deputy CM was received by district collector H Arun Kumar, joint collector S Satyanarayana and SP Ravi Prakash. Chinarajappa unfurled the national flag and took the guard of honour from the police, NCC cadets and home guards.
