Tirupati: The protest by students of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) and unemployed veterinarians in the State entered seventh day here on Tuesday. They have been protesting against the government decision to recruit veterinary assistant surgeons (VAS) through Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC).

They stated that from the past 30 years, the recruitment of VAS in the State was taken up through GO Ms No 474, which clearly states that the recruitment should be through Departmental Selection Committee (DSC) and not through APPSC.

Keeping aside the GO, the government is taking steps to merge VAS recruitment with APPSC, the students said. As part of their protest, students organised a blood donation camp with the assistance of Government Maternity Hospital here in which 37 veterinary students donated blood.

TDP district president and MLC G Srinivasulu who inaugurated the blood donation camp, assured the students of taking the issue to the notice of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and strive to fulfil the demand of veterinary students and unemployed veterinarians in the State.
