Eluru: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that West Godavari district stood as a role model for the State in 155 out of 160 areas identified by the government, but was lagging behind in five other areas and pulled up officials for this. The Chief Minister held a teleconference with district Collectors on Tuesday.

He said West Godavari had failed on the issues of ground water, farm ponds, Anganwadi buildings, cement roads and payments to daily wage labourers. He directed the officials to concentrate on the five issues and emerge as the best in the State in all aspects.

Under the employment guarantee scheme, Prakasam and Chittoor districts achieved 96 per cent growth rate in paying the wages in three days to labourers while Srikakulam has achieved 94 percent growth rate.

In West Godavari only 42 percent workers are getting wages in three days time, said the Chief Minister and directed the Collector to pay hundred percent to the labourers and strengthen the district’s performance.

He said West Godavari district stood in first place in implementing National Rural Employment scheme (NREGS), last year .
This year too, it has performed well and proved to be a model to the State, said the CM. However, he questioned the delay in paying the wages of the workers.

We will identify the non-performing employees and officers at field level and bring about a change in them,” said district Collector K Bhaskar. He assured that the district would stand in first place in the remaining five aspects as well.
