Eluru: West Godavari district Collector K Bhaskar directed the officials to prepare a comprehensive plan to complete the delta modernisation works by the next Rabi season.

He was reviewing the land acquisition and other developmental activities related to irrigation projects, at a meeting on Saturday. The Collector pulled up the officials for not completing the delta modernisation works for the last three years and not taking take up the works at the field level.

He said that the works should be completed by the next crop season without fail. Asking the officials to explain the reasons for the delay, he instructed the officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to complete the delta modernisation works by the next Rabi season.

Six bridges across Yanamadurru drain have to be constructed, said the Collector and directed the officials to complete their construction before the canals were closed next season.

He pointed out that countries like Norway and Denmark were constructing bridges in the sea by utilising modern technology whereas the State was lagging behind with its outdated and conventional approach to things.

He said by September 1 this year, the Canals should fill up with water under Pogonda Reservoir. He directed officials to complete the Pogonda reservoir works speedily and ensure that all canals received water from the reservoir by September 1.

Stating that 1,000 acres of Patta land, and 900 acres of forestland was required for the Jalleru rivulet Project, the collector said it was difficult to acquire 900 acres of forestland.

He therefore asked the officials to prepare a plan to develop D grade forestland in 3,000 acres and said he would sanction the necessary funds for this.

He told the officials to start the digital survey for the project and also to acquire land for the construction of a four-lane bypass road for Bhimavaram.

In addition to this, he asked officials to construct permanent housing colonies for the displaced 900 non-tribal families of Polavaram irrigation project, in 45 acres near Jangareddigudem.

Joint Collector P Koteswara Rao, District Revenue Officer K Prabhakar Rao, Housing Board Project director Srinivas, Irrigation SE B Srinivasa Yadav and RDOs of various divisions participated in the review meeting.
