Congress demands shifting of garbage yard

Tirupati: The Congress party on Tuesday staged a dharna to press the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) to shift the garbage dumping yard located in Madhura Nagar area in the city.

Holding banners, the Congress activists led by district president P Venugopal Reddy took out a rally from the dumping yard to municipal corporation office here where the workers staged a dharna.

Speaking on the occasion, Venugopal Reddy said that the garbage dumping yard in the thickly populated residential area posing health problem to the people and also causing inconvenience to those localities located in the vicinity of the dumping yard.

He criticised the corporation for not responding to the demand of shifting the dumping yard to a faraway place and warned that the party would intensify the stir if the garbage dumping yard is not immediately shifted.Later, a delegation of the Congress leaders submitted a representation to Deputy Commissioner Bhagyalakshmi seeking the shifting of the garbage yard.
