Chittoor: The 144th birth anniversary of Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu celebrated at the Collectorate here on Tuesday. Joint Collector PS Girisha District Revenue Officer (DRO) L Vijaychander and Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Kodandarami Reddy and other officials paid floral tributes to the portrait of Andhra Kesari.
Speaking on the occasion, the Joint Collector gave a call to youth to remember the sacrifice made by several great freedom fighters to free India from British rule. He said Prakasam Pathulu stood against the tyranny of Britishers in colonial raj. Girisha stated that Andhra Kesari sold away his own house at Ongole for the sake of the people. The DRO said that Prakasam Pantulu was an able administrator.
The RDO stated that several roads in towns and cities across the State were named after the tall leader. Later, the Joint Collector distributed the prizes for the students, who have won in essay competition, at PCR Government High School here.
In connection with Prakasam Pantulu birth anniversary, a function was organised at the Chittoor Municipal Corporation (CMC) here. CMC Commissioner Suresh, In-charge Mayor Subramanyam and corporators took part in the function.
Addressing the coporators and municipal staff, Subramanyam has assured of erecting Andhra Kesari statue at Prakasam High Road in the city. In this regard, a resolution would be passed in the municipal council meeting by month-end, he said. Health Officer Dr Mithra, Deputy Engineer Vijayasimha Reddy and others were present.
Tirupati: Rich tributes were paid to Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu on the occasion of his 144th birth anniversary celebrations here on Tuesday. In Sri Venkateswara University, Rector Prof M Bhaskar and Registrar M Devarajulu and other university officials garlanded the statue of Prakasam Pantulu at the university administrative building.
Speaking at meeting held in the university, Bhaskar recalled the heroic fight and crucial role Prakasam Pantulu played in the freedom struggle and said his fearless nature which earned him the title Andhra Kesari. As the first Chief Minister of Andhra State, he laid strong foundation for its growth, he said.
Prakasam Pantulu Jayanthi celebration was held in SPDCL corporate office here on Tuesday. DISCOM chief general manager (HRD) D Yesunadu called on the people to strive for fulfilling the aspirations of Prakasam Pantulu. Eulogizing Pantulu as a man of values, he said that he never did anything against his consciousness and showed exemplary braveness in politics.
As a lawyer, he has not taken any fee from the poor and always stood for the cause of have-nots, he added. DISCOM senior officials including T Hanumanth Prasad, V Prabhakar and others also spoke.
