New Delhi: Congress MP K V P Ramachandra Rao on Wednesday accused the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of sacrificing the State’s interests at the altar of vested interests. He questioned the sincerity of Naidu in completing the Polavaram project and alleged that Naidu was only interested in Central funds and not about the welfare of the State.

Naidu's refusal to insist on the Centre taking over the project and expediting the work gave room to the suspicion that the Polavaram project too would meet the fate as the Special Category Status demand, he said.

Questioning Naidu’s rationale in refusing to hand over the project to the Centre for completion, Ramachandra Rao said the project was an assurance incorporated in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 and it was the duty and responsibility of the Centre to complete it.

But he said that the Centre would obviously not be keen on executing it unless the State government insisted on the same. Similarly, the State was being denied the Special Category Status as Naidu was more interested in a Special Package that would give room for financial manipulations and benefit his party men, he said.

The Chief Minister has been completely blinded by greed and was only interested in filling his coffers, alleged Ramachandra Rao. Naidu will ditch the BJP at an opportune time before the next general elections in order to project himself as the next PM candidate (of Third Front), he said.

He said he had written to Union Minister Uma Bharathi to respond to his queries on the Polavaram Project but the latter did not have time for him forcing him to move a Private Member's Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Andhra Pradesh must not lose out on its benefits because of an individual's scheming mind, he said and urged the people to be wary of the dangers posed to the State by the Chief Minister and Venkaiah Naidu.

Referring to the Krishna Pushkarams, he accused the TDP Government of siphoning the funds meant for its arrangements. Whatever water was available now was due to the canals built during the YSR regime in the State and yet, Naidu took credit for everything, accused Ramachandra Rao.

He also wondered why the Polavaram project estimate had increased to a mammoth Rs 30,000 crore despite the fact that the prices of oil, diesel, machinery, steel and cement had increased or remained stable.
