These plastic mobile toilets were placed at Pushkaranagars, bus stands, satellite bus stations, satellite railway stations, bathing ghats and other parts of the city.Lakhs of pilgrims used these mobile toilets during the Pushkaralu.Had the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation not arranged these mobile toilets, the city could have faced many sanitation problems.Construction of permanent toilets at satellite bus stations or other places is not possible.

Areas where satellite bus stations were arranged belong to educational institutions, private properties. The managements of the institutions would not give permission for construction of permanent toilets. So, the corporation has got a good idea of importing temporary toilets for the convenience of lakhs of pilgrims.

The corporation has taken the responsibility of sanitation in and around the city and for that the officers have imported nearly 2,500 mobile toilets. The work of arranging toilets was given to a private contractor who imported them from Delhi, Haridwar and Ujjaini.

Interestingly, the contractor has arranged Special Mobile Toilets for senior officers also. The staff dug temporary wells for toilets and arranged special water tankers for the users.

The corporation officers deputed some staff to maintain these mobile toilets so that uninterrupted water supply can be made. I am happy that these toilets were very useful to lakhs of pilgrims,” said B Ravi, Mobile Toilets contractor. He said these toilets will be sent back by trucks to North Indian cities in a day or two, he added.
