Financial assistance will empower SCs: Jupudi

Eluru: Rs 1,100 crores would be disbursed as financial assistance to one lakh Scheduled Caste beneficiaries during the current financial year for their development, said Jupudi Prabhakar Rao, Chairman, Scheduled Castes Corporation, at an awareness meeting organised by the SC Corporation in Eluru.

Jupudi said the government was striving hard for the development of the Scheduled Castes in the State and towards this end, was conducting awareness programmes on various schemes designed for their welfare, across the State.

He said the government would sanction loans to SCs for business and agriculture and informed that the upper-age limit for SCs has been relaxed to 55 years. Financial assistance to SCs would help them to become self-reliant, observed Jupudi.

Stating that a corruption-free SC Corporation was his goal, he said the Corporation would take the responsibility of providing jobs to SCs qualified in ITI, engineering and polytechnic. Unemployed youth would be imparted training in development of professional skills, said Jupudi and added that he would personally take the responsibility of developing 10, 000 SC students in the district.

Mines, Women and Child Welfare Minister Peethala Sujatha said Rs 5,878 crore has been allotted under SC sub-plan in the current financial year and added that these funds would be spent on the welfare of SCs.

District Collector Katamneni Bhaskar said that Scheduled Caste people should be aware of all the welfare schemes being implemented for them. He said that no guarantor or deposits were necessary for getting a loan of up to Rs Two lakh for SC, ST, BC category beneficiaries.

He pointed out that since its inception in 1974; the SC Corporation has not disbursed loans exceeding Rs 300 crore in the district. He suggested to bankers to sanction loans to SC beneficiaries liberally and also called upon the SC beneficiaries to repay the loan amounts in time.

Eluru MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao, Government Whips Chintamaneni Prabhakar, Angara Ramamohan, Eluru MLA Badeti Kota Ramarao, Kovvuru MLA KS Jawahar, Undi MLA Vetukuri Sivaramaraju, Dalit leaders Alugu Ananda Sekhar, Nethala Ramesh Babu, KVR Ambedkar, Divakara Babu and others spoke on the occasion.Earlier Jupudi Prabhakar Rao received representations from the SCs on their problems and directed the officials to resolve the issues.
