Vijayawada: Krishna district, which has been experiencing dry spell for the past 26 days, had seen heavy rain on Saturday. The district received an average rainfall of 9.7 mm on the day with Koduru mandal in Diviseema receiving the highest of 54.6 mm, while Gudivada received the lowest of 0.2 mm rainfall.

However, the upland mandals of Mylavaram, Reddigudem, Agiripalli, Gannavaram, Musunuru, Bapulapadu and Unguturu, the delta mandals of Pamidimukkala, Ghantasala, Machilipatnam, Pedaparupudi, Nandivada, Mandavalli and Kruthivennu had no rain on Saturday.

The district is still facing an average shortage of 15.8 mm against the normal rainfall expected. This leaves both the upland and the delta mandals continue to starve for drinking water. The drinking water ponds in these villages have no water even as August is coming to an end.

The delta mandals of Koduru and Bantumilli received more than 50 mm rain, while the upland mandals, Chandarlapadu and Jaggiahpet received 45.6 mm and 42.4 mm rainfall.

The city received 23.2 mm rainfall which paralysed the normal life. The drains overflowed both in the urban and rural mandal limits of the city. Normal life came to a standstill for couple of hours with roads turning into mini-lakes causing severe inconvenience to the travelling public.
