Chittoor: Collector Siddharth Jain said that the processing units for storing tomatoes would be set up in the district soon so that farmers can earn more income. Siddharth Jain visited several villages including Pamuganipalle and Pathur in V Kota mandal on Saturday.

Earlier, Jain has interacted with the farmers. They apprised the Collector about the progress of agricultural operations. Speaking to the media at MPDO office in V Kota, the Collector asked the farmers to opt for horticulture crops rather than traditional farming like paddy and groundnut.

Jain stressed on the judicious use of water for cultivation of crops. He urged farmers to construct soak pits and rainwater harvesting structures in their farm fields. “It is the need of the hour in utilising every drop of water,” he added.

The Collector stated that government programmes like Panta Sanjeevani and Neeru Chettu have improved groundwater levels in the district. Jain said that his goal is to ensure district achieves double digital growth.
Income of the each family should cross Rs 10,000 per month,” he added. The Collector said that the district has created a record in the State by procuring Rs 100 crore worth of paddy from farmers.

Referring about the progress of Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) Kuppam branch canal, Jain said that the works related to branch canal works were in full swing and would be completed in a stipulated period. He gave a call to farmers to extend cooperation for the land acquisition process.

Steps have been initiated to credit the compensation amount into the bank accounts of farmers,” he added. The Collector stated that branch canal would meet drinking and irrigation needs of Kuppam, Palamaner and Punganur Assembly constituencies, once it is completed.
