Kakinada: Director-General of HRD Institute D Chakrapani called upon employees to adapt themselves to the changing scenario in the field of Information technology and constantly update their skills, for better performance. Speaking on the opening day of a two-day training programme on RTI Act, organised under the aegis of the East Godavari Collectorate, on Friday, he said many changes have occurred in IT and its applications.

Chakrapani spoke on the significance of the RTI Act and its implications. He said that in States like Maharashtra and Kerala, an IT qualification was mandatory to get a job in the RTI department.

The DG suggested that the departments maintain a pool of trainers for the staff and requested the civil society activists to study the implementation of the RTI Act. He also suggested that the departments keep every file as a public document and maintain a separate website for each office with the support of IT students, for disclosure of information.

District collector Haran Kumar said training was an integral part of any job and added that e-governance and e-office were being implemented across all government departments. He said efforts have been initiated to usher in a paperless administration at all levels.

He added that the ground-level staff at villages have been using tablet PCs and that the government was thinking of encouraging SHGs to opt for the same.
