Amaravati: The incessant rains during the last two days caused havoc in Palnadu region of Guntur district.Nagaleru stream and Madalavagu stream between Sattenapalli and Narasaraopet, Yedduvagu stream between Sattenapalli and Piduguralla are overflowing and have inundated the highway.

Rainwater entered houses in SC Colony in Dachepalli. Road connectivity was disrupted between Achampet-Sattenapalli, Achampet-Amaravati, Sattenapalli-Bellamkonda and Sattenapalli-Pidiguralla.

Rainwater is overflowing on the Addanki-Narkeptalli highway near Achampet. An RTC bus carrying passengers from Sattenapalli to Achampet was caught in two-feet rainwater. As soon as the bus entered the rainwater, it got stuck in the water. When the inmates of the bus screamed for help, the locals engaged an earthmover (JCB), and a tractor and pushed it to a safe place.

Due to heavy rains, the officials declared holidays to the schools in Achampet, Pedakurapadu, Amaravati, Krosuru and Bellamkonda mandals. The police officials posted constables at the overflowing streams as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, some farmers staged a dharna at Pedanemalipuri village under Rajupalem mandal for not constructing side drains to flush out rainwater.

Low-lying areas in Kolluru, Bodhan, Chityala and Pulichinta villages were submerged in the rainwater.District Collector Kantilal Dande put the revenue officials on high alert. Meanwhile, inflows are increasing at the Pulichintala Project.

Achampet tahsildar P Suajatha said, “We have used motors to flush out rainwater from the roads. There is no need to evacuate people residing in the low-lying areas at Achampet. We have posted some revenue and police staff at the Pulichintala Project.”
Meanwhile, Guntur district received 14.3 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours in the district.

Joint Director of Agriculture V D Krupa Das said, “Rains during the last two days are useful to crops. There is no crop damage due to rains. Withering chilli, paddy, cotton and horticulture crops will get life. “District revenue officer K Nagababu said, “No human loss and crop damage has been reported due to rains in the district.”
