Eluru: Eluru MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao assured the snake charmers’ community of bringing to the notice of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, their demand for being accorded SC status. The community led by 34th division Corporator Eedpuganti Swarooparani met the MP at his camp office on Wednesday and submitted a representation urging the government to grant them SC status.

Promising them of forwarding their representation to the CM, the MP said theirs was an ancient caste that had remained backward due to lack of education. He told the community leaders that education would confer many benefits on them.

He asked the community to avail themselves of the educational schemes of the government. Community leader Guraviah said there were two lakh people of their community in the State and their main livelihood was catching snakes and moneys. He appealed to the government to accord them SC status.
