The workers, employees and six trade unions AITUC, CITU, IFTU, AITCU, YSRTU, HMS, INTUC and its affiliated unions, employees, workers and Teachers Joint Action Committee (JAC) participated in the strike. However, the TDP-affiliated TNTUC did not participate in the strike. As part of the general strike, the workers, employees and trade union activists took out a massive rally in the city.Â
Eluru: Employees, workers and teachers of various public and private sectors went on a one-day token strike in West Godavari district, in response to the national general strike call on Friday.In Eluru, bank employees, jute mill workers, public sector employees, medical representatives, unorganised sector workers and others participated in the strike.
The workers, employees and six trade unions AITUC, CITU, IFTU, AITCU, YSRTU, HMS, INTUC and its affiliated unions, employees, workers and Teachers Joint Action Committee (JAC) participated in the strike. However, the TDP-affiliated TNTUC did not participate in the strike. As part of the general strike, the workers, employees and trade union activists took out a massive rally in the city.
The rally passed on the main fares of the city. The activists raised slogans against the Central government and demanded the minimum wage of Rs 18,000 per month. They demanded the government to control the prices of essential commodities and also demanded the privatisation of government undertakings.
The rally reached Madhulatha centre in the city. The trade unions state Leaders P Prasad (IFTU), V Umamaheswara Rao (CITU), Manohar Manikyam (AITUC), G Suneel (INTUC) LV Sagar (JAC), trade union leaders U Venkateswara Rao, B Somaiah, K Krishnamacharyulu, Bandi Venkateswara Rao, NGO leaders RS Harinath, UTF leader SK Sabji, LIC union leaders Sudha Rani, PV Sudhakar and others addressed the workers at the centre. Madhulatha Centre was completely blocked following the big rally and public meeting at the centre.
As some unions did not participate in the strike, RTC bus services plied as usual. Some business establishments in Eluru area closed their shutters. The banking activities also came to a standstill due to the general strike.
In Nidadavole, the public, private sector workers and employees participated in the general strike. The workers and activists took out rallies in Nidadavole and raised slogans against the Central government.
