During the brief interaction, the Vice-Chancellor briefed Sidhu regarding the core competencies of Andhra University in respect of teaching, research, extension services and international outreach.

Visakhapatnam: Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao, along with Prof B Mohan Venkata Ram, Dean, International Affairs, Andhra University, met Harinder Sidhu, High Commissioner of Australia to India, in the VIP lobby of Visakhapatnam International Airport.

During the brief interaction, the Vice-Chancellor briefed Sidhu regarding the core competencies of Andhra University in respect of teaching, research, extension services and international outreach.

The Vice-Chancellor invited the High Commissioner to visit Andhra University to have detailed discussion on different verticals where Andhra University and universities in Australia can collaborate and organise joint research and academic programmes.

Sidhu, who has an Indian background, had migrated to Australia as a child with her family from Singapore. Earlier, she served overseas in Moscow and Damascus. Sidhu’s previous roles include First Assistant Secretary in the Department of Climate Change, Assistant Director-General in the Office of National Assessment and Senior Adviser in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

India is one of Australia’s closest and most significant partners in the Indo-Pacific region and is 10th largest trading partner of Australia and the two-way investment between the nations is worth over $20 billion. There are over 4,50,000 people of Indians descent currently residing in Australia driving strong education, cultural and tourism links.
