Visakhapatnam: In a first-of-its-kind programme, the Endowments Department will be identifying devotees from backward classes and poorer sections of society and will be taking them on a tour of five famous temples in the State. Dubbed as ‘Divya Darshanam’, the officials are gearing up to identify the first batch of devotes within a fortnight.

Speaking to The Hans India, assistant commissioner of endowments, E V Pushpa Vardhan said that this unique programme would be launched across the State. “Committees will be formed in districts to select the devotees and monitor visits.

Collector will be the chairman of the respective district-level committee, assistant commissioner of endowments will be the convener, with RTC regional manager, Superintendent of Police/Commissioner of Police, project director of DRDA and sub collectors as the members,” he added.

The assistant commissioner said that the government would provide brand new buses. “The programme will be at free of cost and we are looking to select about 240 devotees from each revenue mandal in the district every week,” he explained. Stating that the free accommodation and prasadam would be provided to the devotees under the programme, Vardhan said that Satyanarayana Swamy temple in Annavaram, Venkateswara Swamy temple in Dwaraka Tirumala, Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada, Sri Kalahasteeswara temple in Srikalahasti and Venkateswara temple in Tirumala, would be covered as a part of the tour.

He informed that the main objective of the programme was to propagate Hindu Dharma. A notification regarding the programme will be issued shortly. Similarly, the department is also forming Bhajana Mandals and Bhakta Samajams in each temple, so that the members can render service to devotees during festivals.

As a part of Divya Darshanam programme, a meeting was convened at the Karakachettu Polamamba temple, Peda Waltair here on Tuesday involving spiritual organisations like Sri Satya Sai Seva Sangham, Samarasatta Seva Foundation, Annamayya Vaggeya Vardayini, Brahma Kumaris, ISKCON, Hare Krishna Movement and others.
