Rajamahendravaram: The development of Andhra Pradesh is possible only with the special category status and the State and the Central governments are playing with people with regard to Special Category Status (SCS), CPI State secretariat member Ravula Venkaiah alleged here on Thursday.

Demonstrations were held at the stadium road, Kotagummam and a dharna was staged at BSNL office under the aegis of CPI and CPI (M) in support of the call given by the CPI demanding special category status for the State.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravula Venkaiah said that the UPA government bifurcated the State irrationally. He added that Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu who advocated SCS for 10 years became a mute spectator.

He blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not keeping his promise of SCS and called upon the Telugu Desam Party to join the agitation for SCS. He also called upon people and all the political parties to participate in State bandh on September 10 and make it success.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI district secretary T Madhu said that the Prime Minister cheated the people of Andhra Pradesh by washing his hands in the name of special package. He made it clear that the Left parties would campaign in the State for the cheating committed by the Centre.

Faulting the Centre’s hints of sanctioning a railway zone for Vijayawada (whereas the people are expecting Visakha railway zone), he demanded that the Centre should implement all the assurances given in the State Reorganisation Act.

He asked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to come out from the NDA government and join the bandh on September 10.
CPI (M) urban district secretary T Arun alleged that Naidu accepted special package to safeguard the business interests of the union ministers from Andhra region.

He found fault with the Prime Minister and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu for not fulfilling their promises on SCS made during the Tirupati meeting.

CPI State council member Meesala Satyannaryana, CPI city secretary Nalla Rama Rao, Mahila Samaikya district president Nalla Bramaramba, CPI (M) leader T S Prakash, Tulasi and Savithri were present on the occasion.
