Hyderabad: Opposition parties YSRCP, Congress, CPI and CPI (M) gave separate calls for Andhra Pradesh bandh on September 10 protesting against the Centre’s attitude in granting Special Category Status (SCS) to the state. They have threatened to block the national highways on Saturday, which would hamper movement of traffic.

The two Communist parties will also stage dharnas in front of the Central government offices during the bandh. Alleging that the NDA government at the Centre and its ally the TDP government in the state were not sincere on the issue of SCS, YSRCP chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy appealed to people to join the state-wide protests.

Earlier during the day, the YSRCP MLAs led by Jagan took out a rally from the statue of former Chief Minister Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu to the State Assembly in Hyderabad on Thursday. Talking to media, Jagan said Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely had made it clear on Wednesday that the Centre was not going to give SCS.

He said both the BJP and TDP were enacting the same drama which they did during the time of bifurcation of the state. Jagan claimed that SCS was the ‘sanjivini’ for the state and it alone would provide concessions for industries which would help in the process of rapid industrialisation and employment generation in the state.

Jagan took strong exception to Naidu welcoming the statement of the Union Finance Minister. He demanded that the Chief Minister withdraw his statement and tender an apology to the people of the state. Naidu should also withdraw his ministers from the Centre, he said.

Alleging that Naidu had compromised the interests of the state and sturck a deal with the Centre to save himself from the note-for-vote case, Jagan said on one hand he welcomes the package and on the other hand he says that his blood boils when raw deal was meted to the state.
