Visakhapatnam: Police foiled the all political parties dharna planned at the Waltair Divisional Railway Manager office over a separate railway zone for Vizag and arrested several leaders, here on Thursday. The Government Railway Police and Two Town police arranged a bandobust to prevent the dharna and massive gathering of the people. Even a barbed wire was also placed to prevent the people from entering the DRM office.

The arrested leaders include CPI leader JV Satyanarayana Murthy, CPM leader Ch Narsinga Rao, district president of YSRCP Gudivada Amarnath, vice-president Koyya Prasad Reddy, former MLAs Malla Vijaya Prasad and Tippala Gurumurthy Reddy.

The Greater Visakha City Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemned the illegal arrests of leaders, including women at a mass protest staged at the office of the Divisional Railway Manager on Thursday opposing the Centre’s proposal to shift the railway zone from Vizag to Vijayawada and also demanding Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the mass protest by Left, YSR Congress, civic and mass organisations, CPM State Secretariat member Ch Narasinga Rao alleged though the entire north Andhra people were waging a protest for the last two decades seeking a separate railway zone for Vizag, the NDA government is still dilly-dallying the issue.

The Centre is rendering injustice to AP though the separate railway zone was incorporated in the Act, he charged adding that such illegal arrests will not suppress the agitation.Party City secretary B Ganga Rao also alleged that the BJP which had promised Special Category Status to AP for 10 years when it was in Opposition, is now making contradictory statements.

Terming that delaying the grant of separate railway zone for Vizag is nothing but the high drama of both TDP and the BJP, Ganga Rao demanded the Centre to grant sufficient funds for the completion of Polavaram National Project, IIT and IIM institutions and also to establish Tribal University immediately. Instead of exerting pressure on the BJP government with regard to the fulfillment of promises made, the TDP is hobnobbing with BJP, he flayed.
