Opposition parties gave a call for bandh on Saturday as a protest over the denial of special category status to Andhra Pradesh. As a part of the bandh, the leaders and activists of the opposition parties are organising rallies across the state.

With educational institutions, commercial establishments closed and the RTC buses being confined to depots, the roads looked deserted. The bandh is being witnessed all across the state but few party leaders have been arrested at Tirupati on the occasion and police have even called for the imposition of 144 section in the city.

While Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has stated he is against the bandh called as it would further affect AP, the Congress has extended support for bandh. Chandrababu, however, has directed the police officials to allow the political parties to organise bandh peacefully and not to back down if the leaders resort to violence.
