Hyderabad: Appreciating the efforts of Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan to achieve Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that there was some truth in what Pawan had said, but urged Pawan not to become emotional. “We are wounded soldiers.

I can pull out from the Centre any time but I am worried about the consequences that would follow,” said Naidu. Addressing a press conference in the Assembly conference hall in Hyderabad on Friday, Chandrababu Naidu said that the truncated state was just a little over two years old.

“We are wading through the troubled waters facing issues on multiple fronts that were inherited on account of irrational bifurcation by the UPA government. The UPA had not provided any constitutional or legal sanctity to the assurances made by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Parliament. It took two years for the NDA to come with the package which was the result of constant pressure by the TDP government,” he explained. Naidu said mere announcement of package was not enough.

He said he has been insisting that the NDA government should give legal sanctity to the announcement made by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to avoid any future problems. Referring to the demand made by YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, Naidu said the TDP’s alliance with BJP at the Centre was in the interest of the state.

Any hasty decision would affect the implementation of AP Reorganisation Act. TDP government was committed for the welfare of the people and was accountable to them and not to YSRCP. “Welcoming the special package does not mean that we would not fight for special category status,” he said.

Referring to the unruly incidents that were witnessed in the Assembly on Friday, the Chief Minister said that stalling proceedings was something the opposition parties do but there are certain limits which the members should not cross. “What was witnessed today was most disgusting and disgraceful,” he said. The opposition party and its leader should first learn to show dignity and decency on the floor of the House, Naidu said.
