All TDP MPs are in favour of Special Category Status to AP, said TD Parliamentary Party leader and Kakinada MP Thota Venkata Narasimham, here on Saturday.
Kakinada: All TDP MPs are in favour of Special Category Status to AP, said TD Parliamentary Party leader and Kakinada MP Thota Venkata Narasimham, here on Saturday.
Speaking to the media, Narasimham said the State government accepted the special package as it was in dire need of funds.
Commenting on demand of Pawan Kalyan seeking resignation of all MPs for their inability to raise their voice for Special Status, Thota said they need not do so as they are elected representatives and have other responsibilities apart from Special Status. However he clarified, “We will continue our struggle for Special Status.”
He pointed out that the TDP MPs staged protests on the floor of Lok Sabha for special status and in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament for two consecutive days. They also represented the issue to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
He said the Finance Minister responded to their plea and announced special package instead of status quoting technical reasons.
Disagreeing with Pawan Kalyan’s statement that Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu caused injustice to the State, the MP said the Union Minister time and again mentioned that due to technical reasons the Centre could not grant special status to the State.
Narasimham pointed out that it was clearly mentioned in the package that the Centre would provide the entire funding for Polavaram project.
On the issue of railway zone, the MP said that as Railway Board Consultative Committee member, he knows pretty well that no decision has been taken preferring Vijayawada over Visakhapatnam for establishing the zonal headquarters.
TDP leader Sunkara Turumala Kumar was also present.
