Andhra Chamber demands incentives, tax exemption
Says 20,000 industries have been set up in Himachal Pradesh after it was given SCS. Informs that not a single industry was set up in the State after bifurcation
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (Andhra Chamber) demanded special incentives and tax exemption from the Centre to industries in the State, irrespective of the Special Category Status (SCS).
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Andhra Chamber president M Murali Krishna said the Centre should announce subsidies and excise duty exemption to the industries in the State. In support of his contention, he said that not a single industry was started in the State following bifurcation.
The lack of incentives was proving to be a major handicap for industries in setting up shop in the State, he said. When Himachal Pradesh was accorded SCS, nearly 20,000 industries were set up in that State, said Murali Krishna and added that the industrial growth of Andhra Pradesh was very low and a serious cause for concern. He urged the Centre to focus on special incentives for the State.
Echoing the opinion of Murali Krishna, Chamber general secretary P Bhaskar Rao said the Union government should take steps to develop the Vizag-Chennai and Anantapur-Bengaluru industrial corridors which would assist the economy of the State. He asked the Centre to fulfill all the promises made to Andhra Pradesh and boost infrastructure development in the struggling State. He also urged the Central government to enhance capital incentives from 15 per cent to 25 per cent.
Andhra Pradesh Small Industries Association president T Parthasaradhi, AP Spinning Mills Association president G Punnaiah Chowdary and others were present at the meeting. The Chamber decided to exert pressure on the Centre for attaining its objectives. It would hold its next session at Vijayawada to chalk out the future course of action.
