Party State secretary P Madhu says the wastes from the park will pollute Gontheru drain, a life line for 40 villages

Vijayawada: CPM state secretary P Madhu raised objection against the Mega Aqua Food Park, which was being constructed at Tundurru near Bhimavaram in West Godavari district, apart from finding fault with the State government for allotting fertile lands to Divis Pharma in Tondangi mandal in East Godavari district.

Speaking to the newsmen at CPM State office, here on Tuesday, he stated that Gontheru drain would be polluted with the construction of Mega Aqua Food Park. “Industrial waste will be let into the drain, which will have adverse effect on irrigation and prawn processing units,” he averred.

Madhu dubbed Gontheru drain as life line for forty villages in four mandals. Stating that the farmers from Tundurru, Bethapudi and Jonnagaruvu were objecting the food park, the CPM leader advised the government to move it to Kakinada SEZ. He accused the government of forcible acquisition of lands from farmers. He condemned the activities of APIIC and alleged that the government body is not paying ex-gratia to farmers.

Farmers in Pampadipet, Tatakulapalem, Kothapaka villages are continuing their agitations against marginal ex gratia to their lands. “They used to get an annual income of one lakh per year, but the government paid only three lakh for lands as compensation,” he said.
The CPM leader condemned arrests of the leaders, who visited the farmers. He demanded the government to withdraw the allotment of lands to Divis.

Stating that the CPM was not against industrial development, he made it clear that the party would oppose all moves that would have adverse effect on farmers. CPM State secretariat member Y Venkateswara Rao was also present.
