The doctors declared her newborn as dead and handed over the ‘body’ to the parents.  In a unusual development , the newborn declared dead ,started moving while being taken in an auto rickshaw by the wailing parents for completing the rituals before the last rites.  

Amaravati: Bhavani, 23, from Dasarivaripalem was admitted in the Guntur General Hospital for delivery on Tuesday morning. The doctors declared her newborn as dead and handed over the ‘body’ to the parents. In a unusual development , the newborn declared dead ,started moving while being taken in an auto rickshaw by the wailing parents for completing the rituals before the last rites.

Immediately, the parents rushed back to the hospital. They also questioned the doctors for their negligence. A complaint was lodged with the regional medical officer in the GGH, Dr. K Ramesh and they demanded action against those responsible for the incident. Later the victims and their relatives staged a dharna at GGH demanding action against the doctors responsible for the incident and raised slogans against them.

Regional medical officer Dr Ramesh said the doctors GGH had made a mistake and assured that he would get the matter inquired into and take action against the doctors responsible for the incident. The doctors should have consulted the senior doctors in the pediatrics ward before discharging the new born, he said.

On knowing the incident, the YSRCP city president Lella Appi Reddy and activists rushed to the spot and demanded action against the doctors responsible for the incident. Minister for Medical and Health Dr.Kamineni Srinivas also inquired about the incident and spoke to the regional medical officer. He directed the RMO to submit a detailed report immediately.
