Hyderabad: The State government appointed a six-member committee headed by Minister for Culture Palle Raghunatha Reddy to study and make recommendations for the development Telugu language and culture.

A government order on Thursday said that State Assembly Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad, Advisor to Government Parakala Prabhakar, Secretary Culture Nagulapalli Srikanth, and Director Archeology G V Ramakrishna Rao will be the members of the committee. The official language and culture department director D Vijaya Bhaskar will be the member secretary for the committee.

The committee has been asked to submit a report within a month’s time on enacting a new Telugu Language Authority Act in place of the present Official Language Act. Similarly, it would also look into developing institutional mechanism for archeology and oriental manuscripts library and a structural mechanism for culture department. Re-engineering of the current institutions would also be looked into by the six-member committee. It includes division of institutions like Telugu University, Telugu Academy under AP Reorganisation Act.

The committee has also been asked to come with an action plan for teaching Telugu in education sector, steps to be taken to fully implement Telugu language in administrative affairs of the government, using Telugu language in Information and Technology, recommendations to establish Classical Language Centre (CLC) and also on the problems being faced by Telugu people living in other parts of the country and abroad in regard to their language and culture.

Further, the committee would also recommend an action plan and steps to be taken for the development of Telugu language and culture. In another government order, the Commissioners of Labour and Commercial taxes departments were directed to ensure that the names of all the shops, markets shall be written in Telugu language.

Besides, from now onwards all the plaques of the foundation and inauguration stones should be only in Telugu language the order directed to all the government officials.
