Kadapa: Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Geyanand embarked on a 30-hour fast at Ambedkar Circle here on Wednesday demanding
the State and Central governments to set up a steel plant in the district with the support of public sector Steel Authority of India Limited.
Prior to the fast, he garlanded Ambedkar statue. Speaking to the media, he demanded the governments to construct the steel plant and
fulfill the promise made in the AP Reorganisation Act.

The issue became an emotional issue for the people of the district, he said adding that injustice was done to the Rayalaseema region in
many aspects. Denying the steel plant is yet another incident of injustice, he pointed out. Blaming the Centre for adopting dilly-dallying
tactics on the issue, he said the ruling parties at the Centre and State should realise that the establishing the steel plant here was a
political decision.

The purpose of his fast is to sensitise people that the obtaining the steel plant is the Rayalaseema people’s right. The people are ready to
undertake any amount of sacrifices for the sake of the steel plant, he said. If a decision is not announced on the steel plant in near

Mayor Suresh Babu, the Congress and CPM leaders, people’s organisations, students unions and various political outfits took out a rally in
