Vijayawada: Former minister Devineni Rajasekhar Nehru, here on Thursday, formally joined the ruling Telugu Desam Party along with his son, Devineni Avinash and supporters.Addressing an impressive gathering that preceded by a huge motor rally, Rajasekhar Nehru recalled his association with the TDP and said that he was with late NTR when the party was formed in 1983. He said he had to leave the party for some reasons and had cried for one hour for leaving the party.

Though he had tried to return to the party several times in the past, he had some problems that delayed his re-entry. Nehru said he had vowed to join the party if Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu completed the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project in one year. Stating that he had initially opposed Pattiseema fearing that it would deprive the Polavaram project, Nehru claimed that he had returned to the party following completion of the project.

He further said that he and his supporters would stand by the Chief Minister in completion of the prestigious Polavaram project and the Amaravati capital city.TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, while welcoming Rajasekhar Nehru and his supporters into the party, promised to change the topography of the Vijayawada city.

Some parties are going to the courts and getting stay orders when I am busy with other works. Again I have to intervene, spare time and get the stay vacated and proceed further on the capital works. Do we need such parties in this State?” he said.

Stating that he had given the call to the political parties and leaders to support him, he asserted that several leaders have joined the party in the last two years supporting his works. He thanked Rajasekhar Nehru and his supporters for returning to the party and expressed confidence that the party would strengthen in the district and the State as well.
