Anantapur: IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy and Collector K Sasidhar have visited the family members of two children Irfan (11) and Mohammad (7), who died of dengue at Vinayak Nagar on Thursday night. They consoled the family members and promised to extend financial assistance and a job to one of the family members.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Palle said that the medical and health machinery is geared up to treat those suffering from malaria and dengue. Sanitation committees have been formed at the village, ward and mandal levels. Similar committees have been formed in all the municipal towns to monitor cleanliness, people's health and press the medical teams into action to identify the cases, he added.

Medical and health workers have been asked to step up awareness programmes on maintaining cleanliness in their homes, streets and main roads. The Minister asked housewives to maintain ‘dry day’ for one day in a week so as to prevent breeding of mosquitoes in water tanks and containers.

He directed health officials to monitor the campaign of health workers in cleaning drainages in the slums. The Minister revealed that 506 malaria cases and 144 dengue cases have been identified in the district so far. A control room will be opened to monitor cases of fever in the district, he added.

Owners of vacant plots in the town have been asked to keep their plots clean and tidy as garbage dumps lying in their plots were breeding mosquitoes.

Medical and Health department has been asked to organise medical camps in places where fevers are reported. Municipal health workers are also instructed to send the pigs out of the city. Preventive steps are taken to prevent outbreak of fevers in the district. Instructions have been given to private hospital management to treat poor patients at low cost.
