Addressing a press conference, here on Friday, Ajay Jain who was here to attend the BRICS meeting after reviewing the functioning of APEPDCL in the last three days, told reporters that this was the first time in the entire country that any Power Utility (Discom) is reviewing feeder interruptions based on global standards.

He said to monitor the feeder and consumer power interruptions, the AP Power Utilities have gone global using world class distribution performance indices like System Average Interruption Duration Index and System Average Interruption Frequency Index.

The unique system will not only enable the Discoms’ CMDs to monitor power breakdowns online but also help increase accountability at every level and will be possible to provide quality power. All these initiatives are aimed at to make AP as Power Interruption-free State’, he explained.

The Principal Secretary said that the State government has issued GO Ms No.30 on September 7 to dispense with such a requirement of ‘obtaining feasibility certificate’ for commercial establishments or industries seeking new power connections unlike earlier days.

Andhra Pradesh is the first State in the country to waive the condition of securing feasibility certificate presuming that it is anyhow the responsibility of the State to provide power connection to all new establishments.

He informed that the World Bank has sanctioned Rs 720 crore to lay Underground Cabling System in the city under the Disaster Mitigation Project to help Power Utilities restore power supply within 24 hours even during natural calamities.

He said that EPDCL will invite tenders by September-end to lay underground cabling which would be later extended to coastal districts.Ajay Jain said the AP power sector has maintained an overall Transmission and Distribution loss of 10.2 per cent for the year 2015-16 which is the lowest in the country compared to any other State.
