Vijayawada: Dial 100 call saved two lives in the city on Saturday. Police Control Room (PCR) received phone calls from the victims and the nearest police swung into action to save the lives in two different locations. According to city police, Durga Rao, a resident of Durgapuram ventured into Ryves canal at Locks near Jayaram Theatre and struck near the locks.

Fearing for life with flowing waters, he alerted the 100 police on mobile and asked for the help. After receiving the phone call, the Police Control Room passed on information to Blue Colts police attached to Satyanarayanapuram police station. Blue Colts constable S Jojibabu (PC 3108) rushed to the spot and saved Durgarao from Ryves canal waters.

In another incident, an unknown person rang to PCR that saying that he was on Prakasam Barrage and he would commit suicide there on Saturday.

The PCR duty staff held him online talking with him and alerted the One Town police about the threat call given by unknown person.

One traffic police, who was on duty near Prakasam barrage rushed to the spot and took him into custody. The city police officers praised the PCR staff for alerting other police and saving two lives.
