Kakinada: The animal husbandry department took up the promotion of dairy activity on a massive scale in East Godavari district. As part
of this, a special incentive is being extended to purchase milch cattle. Under this programme, each farmer is entitled to get Rs 10,000 by
purchasing one to maximum five cattle subject to the norms laid for this selection. In addition to this farmers can also get subsidised
cattle feed-up to 75 per cent of the cost.

The implementation of this programme attains significance in the wake of promoting natural farming by using dung and urine of country
cows. The purchase of cattle is being promoted in the entire State in the current financial year of 2016-17.

When it comes to purchasing cattle, varieties like Gir, Kerry Korus, Sahiwal and others are being preferred as the milk yield is between 18
and 24 litres every day with proper feeding.

The cost of each animal is expected to vary from Rs 40, 000 to Rs 70,000 depending on the breed and variety. East Godavari animal
husbandry Joint Director (JD) V Venkateswara Rao said that the incentive of Rs 10,000 would be paid as per the guidelines of each
animal. In addition to this, subsidies on fodder would also be extended as per the feed required for each animal on a monthly
requirement basis, the JD said.
