A two-judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Justice Ramasubramanian and Justice SV Bhatt on Monday directed the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to spell out their stance with regard to allowing students belonging to States other than AP and Telangana to take admission into B Category seats of MBBS and BDS courses by the Private Medical and Dental Colleges Associations of both States.

The bench was dealing with a batch of petitions filed by aspirants for the courses from both States challenging the action of the private medical colleges in allotting seats to students from other States. It is the case of the petitioners that seats should be allotted to the students of both Telugu States only as per the Presidential Order issued under the Article 371(D) of the Constitution.

They pointed out that by virtue of the Article, the students of the both States could not be eligible to compete for 15 per cent quota in National Pool for the medical admissions under the NEET. The bench granted both governments time till Tuesday to spell out their stance.
