Tirupati: Centenary of former professor of Veterinary College was celebrated at Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) here on Monday.

SVVU vice-chancellor and Special Chief Secretary to Government Manmohan Singh said that celebrating the centenary of a retired professor on such a grand and impressive manner, even forty years after his retirement is very rare. He recalled the services of Pandu Ranga Rao for the development of the college. He said SVVU is ready to confer `Lifetime Achievement Award’ on Panduranga Rao and also name the new hostel for girls in SVVU after him. TTD Executive Officer D Sambasiva Rao, an alumni of the college who was the chief guest described Panduranga Rao as a man of values, discipline and humane and recalled his association as a student of the college while another former student of the college, Task Force DIG Kantha Rao also spoke about the services of Panduranga Rao.

APLDA chief executive officer Kondal Rao said that he would extend fund for instituting a gold medal in the name of Panduranga Rao, to give to a meritorious faculty or a student in the college. Panduranga Rao in his thanksgiving address recalled his long association with the college. The students who achieved good positions refreshed their past memories touching the hearts of teachers, retired faculty, students and staff.

The meeting was jointly organised by SVVU Teachers Association, Retired Teachers Association and Alumni Association.
