Tella Aruna, women organisations coordinator said, “We are going to fight the decision of reintroduction of rummy in CVN reading Room in all possible ways. We have seen the breadwinners of a large number of families lose time and money in the same club previously. After a lot of fight, we managed to shut it down and they are now leading a peaceful life. We have submitted a representation to the district authorities to ban the game in the club.

The club is now being utilised by children, students, elders and all for various cultural, sports and conference purposes. They should not introduce the rummy beside these activities. The Aikhya Vedika consisting of AIDWA, POW, CPI and other women organisations are ready to fight against the reintroduction of rummy in the club. If they continue with their decision, we would take up mass movement and also fight the orders of high court in legally.”

However, the police department said that they did not receive the High Court orders yet to take a decision. G Srinivasa Rao, Ongole town DSP said, “When the committee of CVN Reading Room & Club approached the High Court for reintroduction of rummy, we filed a counter against it. Now they are claiming that they received court orders in favour of them. We will take necessary action only after receiving the orders from the court.”
