Tirumala gets top slot in Swachh Bharat Mission

Tirupati: TTD EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao said the holy shrine of Tirumala has earned a slot in the top 10 locations selected for
implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).

The TTD EO said the Central government has chosen Tirumala among the 10 popular locations for effective implementation of the SBM in
the first phase. About 100 popular locations all over the country will be developed under the mission.

He said public sector giants like Coal India and ONGC will fund the activities under Corporate Social Responsibility at Tirumala as part of
Swachh Bharat Mission.

The TTD EO said the TTD plans to submit Rs 26 crore worth proposals to the PSUs for beautifying Tirumala. He said 20 MLD of drain
water was purified daily and being reused at Tirumala. He said Rs 6 crore worth proposals will be taken up for purifying another 5 MLD of
drain water for watering the sandalwood saplings and gardens besides the social forestry along the ghat roads.

He informed that other initiatives proposed are bulk garbage removal system at Rs 1.5 crore, replacement of LED blubs at Rs 5.5 crore,
Rs 6 crore for electric buses and battery cars for making Tirumala pollution-free and Rs 2 crore for setting up 20 RO plants for jala
prasadam, to facilitate total ban on water bottles in Tirumala.
