Tirupati: Now, it is celebration time for the pilgrim city after it was selected for Smart City development programme by the Centre.
Hailing the city’s selection for Smart City programme, local MLA M Suguna, along with her followers, broke 1,000 coconuts at Alipiri, the foot of the holy Tirumala hills, as thanks giving to Lord Venkateswara, here on Wednesday.
While people from various walks of life political leaders, bankers and social activities rushed to the municipal corporation office here to congratulate commissioner V Vinay Chand and also shared their joy over Tirupati getting Smart City tag by distributing sweets.
Andhra Bank deputy general manager Varanasi V Krishnamurthy, Tirupati Town Cooperative Bank chairman P Muralikrishna Reddy, TDP and Kapunadu leaders O Vijaya Kumar, Neelam Balaji and others are among those who felicitated Vinay Chand as a mark of congratulation to him for the corporation getting the Smart City tag.
Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana cut the cake at the IIT foundation course awareness programme organised by the Tirupati Municipal Corporation at Srinivasa Auditorium in SV University campus, celebrating the city’s selection.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that implementation of Smart City programme will give an impetus to the pilgrim centre becoming a major city in the Rayalaseema region and also growing as education, health and industrial hub.
While interacting with the municipal corporation school teachers, students and their parents in the meeting, he said that as many as 1,078 students studying in nine high schools will be covered under the IIT foundation course. The programme will enhance the image of the State-run schools and help them compete with the private corporate schools.
Local MLA M Suguna, District Collector and corporation special officer Siddharth Jain, commissioner V Vinay Chand and others were present.
