​Vijayawada: The incessant rains have caused heavy floods in several districts, Guntur being the major victim. The streams were overflowing causing disruption of vehicular movements at several places in Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Kurnool and West Godavari districts. The NDRF teams have swung into action at several places as vehicles were trapped in the flash floods.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to stop the movement of vehicles on the roads, where streams and rivulets were overflowing. He instructed the officials of the Water Resources Department to divert the flood water to fill the tanks and reservoirs.The rains in Nalgonda and Khammam districts of Telangana brought heavy inflows to the Pulichintala project on river Krishna.

The Pulichintala reservoir received 2.65 cusecs of water on the day, while the officials have discharged equal amount of water maintaining 29.1 tmc ft water in the reservoir. In the downstream at Prakasam barrage, the officials have discharged 7,250 cusecs of water into the sea through 10 gates while another 9,857 cusecs of water was released to the delta canals.

The NDRF teams have been pressed into action to rescue the people caught in the floods and evacuate the people from the low-lying areas of Repalle, Rajupalem, Sattenapalli, Narasaraopet and other parts of Guntur district. The Chief Minister had asked the revenue and water resources departments to keep a strict vigil on the streams, rivulets and canals and ensure that there are no breaches at any place.
He also asked the two departments to position senior officials at the irrigation tanks to prevent breaches and avert damage to the standing crops in the catchment area.

Chandrababu Naidu asked the officials to identify the causeways on the streams and rivulets and prepare action plan to build bridges and flyovers to prevent disruption of vehicular movement in future. He directed the officials of the Panchayat Raj and Roads and Buildings Departments to prepare the list of such causeways, which are to be replaced with bridges and flyovers in future.

Naidu instructed the officials of the AP Transco to gear up to restore power lines that were damaged due to floods. He appealed to the non-governmental organisations across the State and outside to get ready to join the relief operations, if required. He said people look forward to the government in crisis like floods and stressed that officials should act with commitment and serve the people.The Chief Minister visited the Command and Control Center from where he monitored the floods in the four districts and interacted with the officials.
