Promises to construct integrated drainage system

Amaravati: Minister for Social Welfare Ravela Kishore Babu said that Nallamadavagu stream flood water inundated crops in 30,000 acres in Prattipadu, Pedanandipadu and Kakamanu mandals in Prattipadu Assembly constituency. Stressing on the need to develop drainage system, he said that chilli, cotton and paddy crops were inundated due to lack of flood water drains. He visited the rain-affected villages in the mandals of Guntur district on Friday.

Speaking on this occasion, he lashed out at previous governments for their negligence in translating proposal into action. “There was proposal for storm water drain system in these mandals; however the previous government ignored it. Initial budget for the drainage system was Rs 250 crore and now the cost has escalated to Rs 500 crore,” he said.

The Minister said that he would try and construct integrated drainage system and convened a meeting with the officials regarding the same. He stressed on the need to strengthen the drainage system to avoid crop losses caused by the flash floods.

Assuring the farmers that he would take all steps required to secure funds for drainage system, Kishore Babu asserted that the government would do justice to the farmers, who lost crop due to flash floods.

“Enumeration begins as soon as flood water recedes. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has already announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of deceased. The district administration will distribute Rs 3,800 per family to purchase utensils and new clothes,” he informed.
