Vijayawada: Ruling party members, including Mayor Koneru Sreedhar expressed grave concern over the pathetic sanitation condition in the city during the Vijayawada Municipal council meeting on Friday. Even the municipal commissioner also accorded with the concerns of members and said the VMC would give top priority to solve the problem soon.

TDP corporators, BJP and CPM members expressed strong displeasure over pitiful condition of sanitation in almost all divisions. Addressing the concerns of corporators, Mayor Sreedhar said that the VMC allotted at least 30 sanitation workers during Krishna Pushkaralu and paid Rs 7 lakh a day.

“VMC officials failed in maintaining sanitation and silt was not removed from drainages. Pedestrians were finding it difficult to walk through narrow lanes covered with slush,” he said.

Admitting there were many problems in maintaining sanitation in the city, Commissioner G Veerapandian said that the VMC would strive to improve the sanitation condition soon.
