Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) council meeting turned chaotic on Friday with the Opposition YSRCP creating ruckus, demanding Mayor to stop the council meeting until he proved his innocence over Krishna Pushkaralu contract works issue.

YSRCP corporators alleged that Mayor's family members executed contract works during the Krishna Pushkaralu. As the corporators stormed the Mayor's podium, marshals forcibly removed them from the council hall.

When the council took up question hour, the YSRCP, who attended to council with black ribbons, demanded that Mayor Koneru Sreedhar should give an explanation to the council over his family member executing event management contracts during Krishna Pushkaralu. They alleged that contracts were given to an even management company, which has Mayor family member as a director.

YSRCP floor leader Bandi Punyaseela said that as per 1955 Hyderabad Municipal Act, awarding contracts to the Mayor’s family members was against the law. She charged that the Mayor indulged in corruption and has no moral right to run the council meeting until proven innocent.

TDP floor leader G Haribabu objected the YSRCP demand, stating that the issue was not in the agenda. While deputy Mayor Gogula Ramana and TDP corporators were having a heated argument with the YSRCP corporators, some of the Opposition corporators stormed the Mayors podium.

With the council going of control, Haribabu moved a motion to suspend all YSRCP Corporators till afternoon session. As the Opposition corporators refused to leave the council, the Mayor ordered marshals to remove them. After being evicted from the council, the YSRCP staged a protest at the main door of council hall.

Former Minister Kolusu Parthasaradhi rushed to the VMC office and extended his support to the agitated members. Council meeting continued after the suspension of Opposition members.
