Kakinada: State Irrigation Minister and Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao called upon people to maintain hygienic conditions in the vicinity of their households to avert the mosquito menace which is responsible for dengue, malaria, chickengunya, filarial and other diseases.

Participating in a programme organised jointly by the Kakinada Municipal Corporation and East Godavari Medical and Health department at Recharlapet, a municipal corporation school in Kakinada, on Saturday, the Minister said that healthy surroundings were a precursor to a healthy society.

The Minister said that though the local bodies along with the government had taken up a special drive to check and control the mosquito problem, the success of these measures entirely depended on cooperation of the people.

The Minister quoted the example of Sri Lanka, which he said had successfully tackled the mosquito menace and said the State should take inspiration from it. The Minister then released wall posters, hand bills and stickers at the venue. Later, the Minister laid the foundation stone for the development of storm water drain from Recharlapet to salt creek, in the city.

The Minister also flagged off a rally by students after administering an oath to them that they would strive for the eradication of mosquito menace as part of ‘Parisarala Parisubrata’ and ‘Domalapai Dandayatra’ programme.
