Vijayawada: Mayor Koneru Sridhar on Saturday launched a war against mosquitoes as part of the Statewide programme to make the State mosquito-free. The Mayor interacted with the students and parents and appealed to the people to join the health mission launched by the State government to make the State mosquito-free.

He further said that the government was working to make the State healthy with several initiatives to protect the health of the people. The recent dengue cases caused a greater concern for the State in general and city in particular, he said and wanted people to support the efforts of the government in creating healthy conditions.

While inspiring the students who joined him in the programme, the Mayor stressed the need to make health as an important curriculum for the students. He said prevention of breeding chances for mosquitoes was the best answer to fight the diseases. He wanted the students to see that there were no water logging places in their area as that would solve the problem.

The Mayor also launched plantation in the High School Road and at R R Gardens. He said that the civic body would provide tree guards for all the saplings but wanted the residents to ensure that the saplings are protected.Municipal Corporation executive engineer Ch Dhanunjaya, Horticulture Officer Pratap Kumar and other officials were present.
