Vijayawada: The doors and the walls of sanctum sanctorum of Durga temple in the city were plated with gold, said temple authorities on Sunday.

The temple got a new look with gold plating (bronze sheets decorated with gold covering) ahead of the Navarathri festival.

A devotee, a resident of Visakhapatnam, donated ornaments and gold plating worth Rs one crore to the temple in the recent past.

The gold plates to the doors and walls were made in Tamil Nadu.

The idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswathi, which were earlier covered with silver plating, have also been covered with gold plating now.

The idol of Goddess Lakshmi at the main door and some other idols were also gold plated.

The devotee also donated Panchaloha idols of Ganga, Parvathi and Malleswara Swamyvarlu and 11 silk sarees for Dasara festivities, temple authorities said.
