Distribution of baby kits to post-natal mothers to help protect the infants from infectious diseases was launched at the King George Hospital here on Tuesday.

Visakhapatnam: Distribution of baby kits to post-natal mothers to help protect the infants from infectious diseases was launched at the King George Hospital here on Tuesday. The programme was held as part of Sishu Suraksha Yojana, introduced by the Health, Medical and Family Welfare wing of Government of Andhra Pradesh. Launching the programme, KGH Superintendent Dr G Arjuna informed that this unique government programme would help educate womenfolk, especially uneducated on how to nurture the new-born babies under warm and healthy environment.

He said the kits would be distributed at the time of discharge and when the post-natal mother steps into the Talli-Bidda Express to go her home. The Superintendent said the kit includes liquid soap, towel and a smooth baby bed to protect the infant in all respects and it can be used even up to the child attains six months. If it can be maintained carefully, the same could be used for the second time too.

Stating that 300 kits were supplied by the Commissioner of Health, Medical and Family Welfare, he said that daily, on an average, the demand would be in between eight to 10 kits which contains the picture of CM N Chandrababu Naidu, the force behind the launch of the programme. The post-natal mothers who accommodated their infants in the kits, thanked the government for its initiative towards poor people as the kit itself costs about Rs 1,000 each.
